Outstanding talents are present in children and youth from all cultural groups, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor. They require services or activities not ordinarily provided by the schools. These children and youth exhibit high performance capability in intellectual, creative, and/or artistic areas, possess an unusual leadership capacity, or excel in specific academic fields. The most recent federal definition was cited in the most recent national report on the state of gifted and talented education:Ĭhildren and youth with outstanding talent perform or show the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. Department of Education,” definition has dominated most states’ definitions of giftedness and talent (Passow & Rudnitski, 1993). The United States federal government also subscribed to a multifaceted approach to giftedness as early as 1972 when a national report was issued called the Marland Report. Persons who manifest or are capable of developing an interaction among the three clusters require a wide variety of educational opportunities and services that are not ordinarily provided through regular instructional programs. Individuals capable of developing gifted behavior are those possessing or capable of developing this composite set of traits and applying them to any potentially valuable area of human performance. Gifted behavior consists of behaviors that reflect an interaction among three basic clusters of human traits-above average ability, high levels of task commitment, and high levels of creativity. Renzulli’s (1978) definition, defining gifted behaviors rather than gifted individuals, is composed of three components as follows: Gardner believes that people are much more comfortable using the term “talents” and that “intelligence” is generally reserved to describe linguistic or logical “smartness” however, he does not believe that certain human abilities should arbitrarily qualify as “intelligence” over others (e.g., language as an intelligence vs. Within his MI theory, he articulates eight specific intelligences: linguistic, musical, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalist. Gardner’s (1983) definition of an intelligence is the ability to solve problems, or create products, that are valued within one or more cultural settings. Howard Gardner’s (1983) theory of multiple intelligences (MI) and Joseph Renzulli’s (1978) “three ring” definition of gifted behavior serve as precise examples of multifaceted, expanding and scholarly conceptualizations of intelligence and giftedness. Motivation, high self-concept, and creativity are key qualities in many of these broadened conceptions of giftedness (Siegler & Kotovsky, 1986). IQ scores are often viewed as inadequate measures of giftedness. Most of the investigators define giftedness in terms of multiple qualities, not all of which are intellectual. The different conceptions of giftedness presented although distinct, are interrelated in several ways. This is particularly evident in the reexamination of “giftedness” by Sternberg and Davidson (1986) in their edited Conceptions of Giftedness. Research conducted in the 1980s and 1990s has provided data that support notions of multiple components to intelligence. Since that early time, however, other researchers (e.g., Cattell, Guilford, and Thurstone) have argued that intellect cannot be expressed in such a unitary manner, and suggested more multifaceted approaches to intelligence (Wallace & Pierce, 1992). Some of this “legacy” survives to the present day, as giftedness and high IQ continue to be equated in some conceptions of giftedness. For the first several decades of this century, psychometricians and psychologists, following in the footsteps of Lewis Terman in 1916, equated giftedness with high IQ. ![]() A thorough review of the research on gifted and talented learners indicates that the gifts and talents among the gifted vary widely. To the contrary, they are many, varied, and unique. In the past century, we have come to understand that gifted learners are not a homogeneous group. Expanding Conceptions of Giftedness and Talent

Common solvent-based extraction methods typically use hydrocarbons. Extraction technicians must perform a purging process to remove the solvent from the final product. Solvent-based methods use chemical solvents to dissolve the trichomes. Heat and pressure are then used to make rosin or live rosin. These methods include dry sifting, bubble hash/ice water extraction. Solventless methods use agitation to mechanically remove the plant’s trichomes. All extraction methods strip the cannabis resin from the rest of the cannabis plant material and remove contaminants from the end product. In a stand mixer, whip egg whites at medium-high, until foamy. Continue to whip until the whites have soft peaks. Slowly add the sugar and continue to whip until whites are glossy and have stiff peaks. This means that if you pull out the whipping tool, or insert a knife, the peak of meringue that comes with it will be stiff and pointy, and will remain that way no matter which direction you turn it. In a bowl, sift together the flour, and 3/4 cup of the sugar, set aside. Once peaks are stiff, add the vanilla extract and if you want, any additional flavoring (I used Raspberry extract here, but almond or lemon would also be delicious!) at low speed until incorporated. In a large bowl, whip the egg whites, until soft peaks form. Add the vanilla, cream of tartar and salt, and continue whipping until medium stiff peaks form.Remove mixing bowl from stand mixer, and using a large silicon spatula, scrape meringue into a large, wide mixing bowl.Dont grease or flour your angel food cake pan. How to Make Angel Food Cupcakes Prepare for Baking: Preheat your oven to 325☏ and prepare a cupcake pan with cupcake liners. Using your fine-mesh sieve or sifter that you used for the cake flour, sift 1/4 of the cake flour at a time into the meringue, folding gently with a large spatula until just incorporated. A 10' round pan or an angel food loaf pan will fit this recipe well. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and 3/4 cup of the sugar. When the pan is half full, run a knife through the batter to encourage any air pockets to collapse, then continue spooning the batter into the pan. Run the knife once more through the batter to collapse air pockets. Bake 35-40 minutes until cake springs back when lightly touched. ![]() Betty Crocker White Angel Food Cake Mix multipack of 2 & 1x Happy Home by.

Most of the research described above has examined the effects of participants physically being in a natural environment, however, more recent studies have investigated whether simulated forms of nature can have restorative effects, as well. Only one other study has looked at the effects of nature on attention in older adults, finding that attention on the Necker Cube Pattern Control, Digit Span Forward and Backward, and the Symbol Digits Modalities Test, improved more after sitting outside for an hour compared to sitting inside for an hour ( Ottosson & Grahn, 2005). Older adults, the target population in the present study, also experience declines in some aspects of executive control or attention ( Verhaeghen, 2011), as well as increased fatigue that affects their daily lives and well-being ( Yu, Lee, & Man, 2010). The restorative benefits of nature have been found in varied populations, from college students ( Tennessen & Cimprich, 1995) to groups suffering from impaired attention, such as women with breast cancer ( Cimprich, 1993) and children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ( Faber Taylor & Kuo, 2009). Nature has been shown to reduce stress in participants who have been experimentally stressed ( Ulrich, et al., 1991), as well as to reduce recovery time from gall bladder removal surgery ( Ulrich, 1984), and to improve attentional capacity in women recovering from breast cancer surgery ( Cimprich & Ronis, 2003). Kaplan & Berman, 2010).Ī range of evidence supports the Attention Restoration Theory. An urban environment, according to Kaplan, may also capture our involuntary attention, but does so with less inherently appealing stimuli, such as police sirens, thus requiring people to use effortful top-down, directed attention, to overcome these stimuli and re-focus their attention ( S. It must: (1) be fascinating, effortlessly capturing attention in a bottom-up manner (2) provide a feeling of being away, allowing the mind to wander from daily stresses (3) be extensive, providing a desire to explore more of the environment and (4) be compatible with one’s desires or needs, providing opportunities to take part in enjoyable activities. ![]() He argues that a natural environment must meet four criteria to be restorative. Kaplan’s Attention Restoration Theory proposes further, that in capturing involuntary attention, nature permits fatigued directed attention to rest and be restored.
